There is now a Direct Deposit-only offer available, with up to $900 back. It requires $10,000 in DD. However, using our methods, this is still quite easy to complete and does not require an actual payroll deposit. The three tiers are $2,500/$5,000/$10,000, earning $425/$600/$900 respectively. The deadline is also January 27, 2027.

Using LemFi with “payroll” in the memo can directly complete the DD requirement. It is more convenient and reliable than bank ACH. There are also recent tested DPs. Robinhood, Discover, SoFi, Chime, etc. can also be used to mimic DD. For details, see:

If you open both the checking and savings accounts together, you can earn another $400. Use the link below to enter your email and get the promo code. The offer ends on July 15, 2026. Introduction to Chase bank accounts

Chase offers multiple checking and savings accounts. In addition to solid service, the signup bonuses for these accounts are also good. Having a Chase checking or savings account can also help when applying for Chase credit cards. A checking account can be used to deposit and withdraw cash, write checks, deposit checks, pay credit card or utility bills, transfer money, and more. Savings accounts are limited to 6 withdrawals or payments per month and earn a small amount of interest, but Chase’s interest rate is extremely low and can be ignored.

Chase offers multiple products for different users. Each account has different opening requirements, bonus conditions, and benefits, which are introduced one by one below. The official comparison is as follows:

For most people, any of the checking accounts can meet daily needs. Therefore, prioritize the one with the higher signup bonus, while also confirming whether you can waive the monthly fee.

Chase Total Checking

Total Checking is Chase’s main product, and most people can open it. Its benefits are fairly standard, and the signup bonus is easy to earn.

How to get the checking account bonus

Bonus eligibility requirements: you currently do not have a Chase checking account; you have not closed a Chase checking account within the past 90 days; and your previous account was not closed with a negative balance. Other requirements:

  • Successfully open an account with valid ID
  • Deposit at least $25 on the spot, either by cash or check
  • Set up one direct deposit to the new account within 60 days, with no minimum amount

Based on experience, the bonus is automatically deposited a few days after the money arrives. If it does not arrive, you can send a secure message to ask. Chase gives this example of direct deposit:

  • an electronic deposit of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or the government

Generally, payroll and TARA income count as direct deposit. In practice, the following may also count (from DOC data):

If you have a TopCashback cashback account (sign-up link, detailed introduction), the fastest way is to withdraw any amount directly from TopCashback to your Chase checking account. If you have a brokerage account, you can try transfers from the list above. You can also open a free Robinhood brokerage account, get one free stock, sell it, and then transfer the proceeds to Chase.

Note that the direct deposit must be completed within 60 days after opening the account, so it is best to try early.

How to Avoid the Monthly Fee

Ways to waive the monthly fee on Chase Total Checking; complete any one of the following, otherwise the fee is $12 per month:

  • Total monthly direct deposits of $500 or more; the methods above can be used
  • Minimum daily balance of $1,500 or more
  • Average monthly balance of $5,000 or more across checking and savings accounts

Chase Savings Account

Bonus eligibility: you must not currently have a Chase savings account; you must not have closed a Chase savings account within the past 90 days, and the previous account must not have had a negative balance when closed. Other requirements:

  • Successfully open an account with valid identification
  • Deposit $10,000/$15,000 or more within 10 days; cash, checks from other banks, or transfers are allowed, and multiple deposits can be combined
  • Maintain a balance of $10,000/$15,000 or more for 90 days

For the deposit, you can write a check from another bank and deposit it. It is recommended not to deposit a large amount of cash, as Chase is sensitive about cash deposits. Based on experience, the bonus posts a few days after the requirements are met.

Special note: the deposit cannot come from a Chase checking account or a Chase investment account. The bonus amount depends on the offer: the $200 bonus requires $15,000, and the $150 bonus requires $10,000.

Bonus matching for new accounts

[Updated 11/2019] According to DOC, Chase now allows matching signup bonuses for personal and business checking accounts. You can do it by secure message or at a local branch. Requirements:

  • Request the match within 21 days of account opening
  • You have not received this bonus
  • You have the offer code for the new offer (a screenshot plus the code is best)
  • Send a secure message (choose the checking account category) or visit a branch. Phone reps usually are not helpful

Feel free to share bonus-matching data points. Good offers will be updated as soon as possible going forward.

If you applied for a checking account + savings account within 21 days, it can be matched. Just contact customer service by secure message (choose checking accounts), and the rep can replace the offer code. It is recommended to generate an offer code from the link and attach it to the secure message (or attach a screenshot), saying that you received a new offer; this makes matching easier. (The example below is for matching a $900 bonus; other offers are similar.)

After more than 21 days, it cannot be matched, and the rep will explain why.

Important notes

  • If there is no Chase branch in your area, do not open an account across state lines; it may be closed later
  • Chase is sensitive to cash deposits, so do not deposit large amounts of cash. You can deposit the cash at another bank first, then complete the requirement by check or transfer
  • All bank signup bonuses are taxable. Chase issues a 1099-INT in January; report it as appropriate for your situation
