Introduction to Amazon Prime Big Deal Day

Every year, Amazon designates 1–2 days as Prime Day, usually in June or July. Starting last year, Amazon has also been running a Prime member-exclusive Big Deal Day around October in the second half of the year. During this period and the week before it, Amazon rolls out a series of deals for its Prime members. This year’s Amazon Prime Big Deal Day is October 6–7. If there is anything you want to buy on Amazon, you can check ahead of time to see whether there are any deals you need. I will also keep everyone updated with good deals that can help you save or even make money.

Based on past experience, electronics—especially Apple products—tend to see more discounts, and Amazon Devices also usually get pretty strong deals. Around Prime Day, there are also often quite a few discounts on third-party gift cards, as well as some reload discounts for Amazon’s own gift cards, so those are worth checking out too.

Prime Day promotions are available only to Amazon Prime members. A full year of Prime costs $139/year, or you can pay monthly at $14.99/month; monthly members can also participate in Prime Day deals. If you do not currently have Prime, you can consider the following ways to get membership. The best option is Amazon Young Adult: ages 18–24 get free membership directly, and can later renew at a discount. In addition, Prime Day also has an extra 5%–10% cashback. If you meet the requirement, I strongly recommend signing up:

Other ways to get Prime membership at a lower price include:

In addition, if a family member or friend has Prime, you can ask them to share membership with you, and then you can also participate in Prime Day deals. See details here:

This year’s promotion roundup

Amazon’s official site has previewed some of the promotions in advance; here is a summary. Note that even if you are using the one-month Prime trial, you can participate in all of these promotions!

Early Deals (already started)

Although Prime Day does not officially start until October 6, Amazon has already launched some Early Deals. Amazon Devices in particular are already seeing very strong discounts:

Sitewide credit card points discounts (already started)

Another round of Amazon sitewide discounts using AMEX Membership Rewards has appeared, and this time it expires on December 31! There are various versions: 15%/30%/40%/50% off, up to $15/$30/$60/$80 off. Note that the required amount of MR points varies, so be sure to read the details carefully. With the discount included, it is definitely worthwhile. Go save the discount to your Amazon account!

The Citi TYP offer has also arrived, with up to 40% off. It varies by person, so activate it first and see what you get. It expires on December 31, 2026.

Other Chase, US Bank, and Capital One promotions may also refresh, so you can also try the old links below! I checked a few of them and they all told me to come back later.

Also, based on suggestions from readers in the chat group, if you do not have this promotion, you can try the following method:

  • Delete all AMEX/Discover credit cards saved on Amazon.
  • After deleting them, do not click any promotion activation links. Wait about 3 days before adding the card back.
  • Add one AMEX card that earns Membership Rewards, or add a Discover card.
  • Go to the Shop with Points page and complete the card linking.
  • After completing it, do not click any promotion activation links. Wait about 3 days before doing anything else.
  • Visit the promotion links above again.

Promotion for adding a new payment card on Amazon

Another round of AMEX new-card offers has appeared. Add one card and you can get a $15 discount. If you have a new Amazon account, you should be able to activate this offer 100% of the time. You can try the link below. The promotion expires on December 31, 2026.

Free 4 months of Music Unlimited (already started)

Amazon Prime members can currently claim 4 months of Music Unlimited for free on Amazon. After that, it is $11.99 per month. You can try the link below.

Great Audible membership deal (already started)

Amazon Prime members can currently get 4 months of Audible membership plus a $20 credit for $0.99 on Amazon. After that, it is $14.95 per month. You can try the link below.

3 free months of Kindle Unlimited (already started)

Get 3 months of Kindle Unlimited for free. If you are interested, you can try activating it through the link below. This membership can be canceled at any time; if you decide you no longer need it, you can cancel online.

Grubhub Discount Promotion (already started)

Amazon Prime members can now take advantage of a Grubhub promotion for $20 off $30.

Additional Offers for Amazon Co-Branded Credit Cards

Several Amazon co-branded credit cards have extra offers, with 10% cash back in some categories. See the link below for details and eligible products.

How to Save More

Only a few co-branded cards earn elevated cash back directly on Amazon, with 5% cash back. If you do not shop there that much, it may not be worth applying for one specifically.

A more efficient approach is to use cards that earn bonus cash back at supermarkets to buy Amazon gift cards at grocery stores. That can directly earn you up to 6% cash back.

In addition, working on spending requirements for newly opened credit cards is also a very good option, since the return from welcome bonuses is often above 20%.

You can also combine these with promotions like Subscribe & Save. Some summaries are listed below, though some content may have expired and is for reference only.
